The economy needs technology and technology needs the economy.

As simple as it may sound, this correlation plays a decisive role in the growth of an entire region. Here in Aachen we are the partner for business enterprises opening doors for them and making the Technology Region Aachen more transparent. Whether it’s about setting up a company here, finding innovation partners or the targeted promotion of economically sound projects, AGIT is the development agency for the Aachen region and your partner for business.

Extension of cross-border cooperation among technology-oriented enterprises: towards “Top Technology Cluster” TTC

Since 2008 the Southern Dutch Provinces (North Brabant and Limburg), the Eastern Belgian Provinces (Flemish Brabant, Limburg and Liège) and the western part of North Rhine-Westphalia (in the Administration Districts Cologne and Düsseldorf) have been working together in a joint cross-border initiative “Top Technology Region (TTR)”.

The particular strategic approach of this initiative is on the one hand to advance cross-border projects, with which the excellent, but still insufficiently linked business-technological potential in this area can be developed. On the other hand, the aim is also to improve the general institutional conditions for cross-border cooperation and position this emerging functional Region on the European and various national maps.

towards “Top Technology Cluster“ (TTC) is the first concrete project that has actually come into being under the common initiative TTR and it is the first time that all seven regions (five EMR regions plus Leuven and Eindhoven) are cooperating. The central objective of the project is to promote and intensify cross-border business in the sectors that have been identified as having the best prospects

  • Healthcare/Life Sciences
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • Energy and
  • New Materials / Chemistry

In order to stimulate cross-border cooperation among technology-oriented enterprises (including R&D facilities), cluster-specific networking, inter-cluster and partnering activities in all parts of the TTR will be carried out, building on the basis of the existing regional business networks. However, experience has shown that more effort is needed to establish concrete and sustainable business across the borders. That is why the project is counting on additional business development support measures. These provide the enterprises with expertise, services and small promotional tools to help them master the first steps from a good idea to a concrete approach to a project and to joint technology-oriented project consortiums.
