Both in China and in South Korea AGIT has built up an intensive network in recent years which enables us to approach companies in a targeted and proactive manner and to inform them about Aachen as an investment and research location. AGIT is a reliable partner for companies settling in Aachen and always advises and supports them.

Together with the City of Aachen, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) as well as the RWTH Aachen University and the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, AGIT is actively marketing the location in China. The aim of the activities is to address Chinese companies for which Aachen is an interesting investment and research location. The provision of specific information in Chinese, accompanying companies during visits to Aachen and personal support in all phases of the settlement process are duties AGIT performs.

Regarding the activities in China, AGIT can not only rely on the local partners of the Aachen China Office. There is a good network at both local and state level, but above all in China, which AGIT can draw on in its activities. There are particularly close contacts with Ningbo, with which the city of Aachen has been twinned since 1986.

Since 2015 Aachen has been part of the Industrial Cities Alliance ISA, which was initiated by the South Chinese city of Foshan. The aim of the cooperation is to establish economic and scientific collaboration. The establishment of an Industry 4.0 Center in Foshan is an important step in intensifying the cooperation.

>> Latest news: Humanitarian aid from China

Within the framework of the Industrial Cities Alliance ISA, AGIT and the City of Aachen have been in close contact with the southern Chinese city of Foshan for several years. So far, the cooperation with Foshan has primarily concerned economic and scientific topics. Within the framework of various delegation trips, AGIT has also been able to establish personal contacts with representatives of the city of Foshan.

These good relations are now paying off. In the course of the corona crisis, the city of Foshan now donated 20,000 protective masks and clinical thermometers to the city of Aachen. The City of Aachen received the aid delivery from Foshan at the beginning of April 2020. AGIT is very pleased about the help from China and thanks everyone who supported the aid delivery. It is proof that relations with China are proving their worth even in times of crisis and are not just limited to economic aspects.

This kind of uncomplicated aid is not only available from the state. Companies which have been supported by AGIT in the course of their settlement also contact us and ask to what extent they can support the region with donations.

AGIT has been active in South Korea since 2014 and actively promotes the Technology Region Aachen as a research and investment location. AGIT sees itself as a central contact for economic and scientific cooperation with Korean institutions and multipliers. In 2017, the City Region Aachen and the City of Ansan signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which aims in particular at the continuation of the cooperation in the fields of economy and science and digitalisation. Within the framework of various delegation trips to Aachen and Ansan, the relations have been continuously improved and expanded.

Together with network partners such as the RWTH Aachen University, NRW.Invest and numerous institutions and facilities, a targeted marketing of Aachen as a location in Korea is taking place. Together with partners such as NRW.Invest and network partners in Korea, an investor seminar is held once a year, where companies from Korea can inform themselves about Aachen as a location and its possibilities. Korean companies, again automotive supplier CTR Central, were approached by AGIT and comprehensively informed about the research location Aachen. Within the scope of the settlement, the Korean company was accompanied, advised and supported in all phases.
